Cookie Policy

The following information is provided pursuant to Article 13 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council and in accordance with the provisions of Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003 as amended, the Italian Data Protection Authority’s Provision no. 229 of 8 May 2014, and Directive 2002/58/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council (ePrivacy Directive).

What are Cookies?

Cookies are data created by a server and stored in text files on your computer’s hard drive or on the device used for browsing. They allow this website to function properly, enable specific features explicitly requested by the user and help improve the functioning of the website, for example by making navigation faster or by displaying content that may be more relevant based on the user’s previous choices.

Cookies may be permanent (so-called persistent cookies) or have a limited duration (so-called session cookies). This website uses both persistent cookies and session cookies.

Session cookies are not permanently stored on the user’s device and are deleted when the browser is closed. Persistent cookies, on the other hand, allow navigation to be customized according to the device used by the user (computer, tablet or smartphone). Third-party cookies may also be used to analyse website traffic (for example through services such as Google Analytics) or to allow users to share website content via social networks or email.

These cookies may be stored on the user’s device and have a variable duration.

Types of Cookies

Italian legislation (Art. 122 of Legislative Decree 196/03 “Personal Data Protection Code”) introduced into national law the Community Directive 2009/136/EC, which requires website operators that use cookies or other tracking technologies to inform users about the types of cookies used by the website.

The Provision of the Italian Data Protection Authority no. 229 of 8 May 2014 identified two main categories of cookies: “technical” cookies and “profiling” cookies.

1. Technical Cookies, normally installed by the website owner or manager, are used to transmit a communication over an electronic communications network or to provide a service explicitly requested by the user. The installation of technical cookies does not require the user’s prior consent.

Technical cookies are further divided into:

  1. Navigation or session cookies, which ensure normal browsing and use of the website, for example allowing a reservation to be made or access to restricted areas. These cookies are not permanently stored on the user’s device and are automatically deleted when the browser is closed.
  2. Analytics cookies, used to collect information about how the website is used in an aggregated and anonymous form, in order to obtain statistical analysis of the pages viewed and user behaviour. These analyses help improve the quality of the website and make the most relevant content easier to access.
  3. Functionality cookies, which allow users to navigate the website according to selected criteria (for example language preferences) in order to improve the service provided.

2. Profiling Cookies, used to create user profiles and employed in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed during web browsing. The use of such cookies requires the user’s explicit consent.

In the same Provision, the Italian Data Protection Authority also categorized cookies according to the entity acting as data controller of the personal data collected through the cookie, distinguishing between “first-party” cookies and “third-party” cookies.

First-party cookies
These are cookies managed directly by the website owner. For these cookies the obligation to provide information rests with the website owner, who must also indicate how the cookies can be disabled.

Third-party cookies
These are cookies managed by a third party different from the website owner. For these cookies the obligation to provide information and instructions for blocking the cookie rests with the third party. The website owner must provide links to the relevant third-party information where available.

In both cases, if the cookie is a profiling cookie, user consent is collected through the banner displayed on the website homepage.
